Summer Update | July 2022

Welcome to the 2022-2023 School Year!

Joe Marshall
Dear Trinity Families,

I hope you and your family continue to enjoy a fun and refreshing summer break! We will soon welcome all families back on campus, and I offer a special welcome to all families new to Trinity. You and your children are joining a wonderful, supportive, and caring community.

As an elementary school, Trinity is grounded by the following core tenet: developing in our students a strong academic and character foundation while also fostering their continued curiosity and engagement in school and learning. This strong cognitive and social-emotional base supports our graduates’ continued success in middle school and beyond. While looking toward the future, Trinity also cherishes the wonder of childhood and the preciousness of children’s elementary school years. To me, this balance of enjoying the present while preparing for the future is the essence of an elementary-school education and is what distinguishes Trinity from other schools!

In addition to our incredible teachers who nurture and inspire your children, you, our Trinity parents, support the School in countless ways. Thank you in advance for your flexibility, can-do attitude, volunteerism, and philanthropy as we work together. It’s this spirit of possibility that makes Trinity the exemplary place it is and will ensure the 2022–23 school year is memorable and meaningful for your children.

Our campus has been busy this summer, including a full array of camp programs and new family events. It is exciting to watch the construction projects made possible by the Inspire Excellence campaign continue! The Early Elementary Dining Hall is now complete and site work has begun on the Multi-Use Recreation Center. We are excited about this new structure, and its completion date will depend on meeting certain fundraising goals.

I very much look forward to seeing all of you during Visitation Day on Wednesday, August 17. Enjoy your final weeks of summer as we look forward to another great school year!

Sincerely,
Joe

Joseph P. Marshall
Head of School

    Division Heads 2021
    Dear Trinity Families,

Welcome to a new, exciting school year that will be filled with amazing Trinity traditions and memorable learning experiences. As we look towards the 2022-23 school year, we thank you in advance for your support and partnership as we strive to support every Trinity student in reaching their full potential. It is our vision and hope that each child will experience growth and maturation academically, socially, and emotionally in a safe and welcoming educational environment.

We recognize that support from both home and school provides each student with the necessary tools needed for success. We know a strong partnership with each family makes a great difference in every child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our students’ success, and we are committed to doing our very best for your children and their Trinity Experience.

Effective and timely communication is a crucial component for success in partnerships. Knowing this, we will continue using the Seesaw platform for teacher communication and our robust My Learning profiles. We encourage you to review and comment on your child’s entries frequently as they love receiving comments from you about their progress. We also ask that you review the updated Parent Handbook to make sure you are aware of all school policies and procedures.

Trinity is a special place to learn and grow. Our goal of “cherishing childhood” will continue to guide our programs and decisions to help us continue to provide a rigorous, joyful, and inclusive school environment. Our overarching goal is to encourage active student engagement, connect with each student, and foster a lifetime love for learning.

We are excited about the new members of our Upper Elementary and Early Elementary Division teams and our enhanced programs. We know each new member will bring value to our community and their teaching team. All of our teachers are committed to providing each student with a high-quality, multi-sensory, student-centered learning environment and practices that support the holistic development of every child. Each member brings a unique set of skills, experiences, and knowledge base to our community and will enhance our existing programs.

We wish your family much joy in the days and weeks to come! As always, please reach out to either one of us with any questions or concerns.

    Sincerely,
    Sheree and Ira

Important Notices

List of 26 items.

  • + COVID-19 and Trinity’s Contagious Diseases Policy

We have reached the point in which Trinity School will treat COVID-19 as an endemic contagious disease, and the School will no longer operate under a Pandemic Response Plan. Trinity School remains mask optional, and we continue to recommend that every eligible person remain up-to-date on their COVID-19 vaccines as directed by their medical provider. For those who test positive for COVID-19 or are exposed to the virus off campus, we will continue to follow Georgia Department of Health guidelines. We will no longer conduct contact tracing at school or communicate positive cases unless we experience a major outbreak. Please take the time to read Trinity’s full Contagious Diseases Policy, which is housed on the Health Information tile in MyTrinity. If you have any questions, please contact the School Nurses by emailing nurse@trinityatl.org.
  • + Health Record Updates Due July 31

Important Note Regarding Georgia State Law: In accordance with state and federal health regulations, any child who does not have a completed health record by the first day of school will not be permitted to attend school until the record and all requirements are fulfilled, including complete and current immunization certification.

Health information required within your Magnus account for each child attending Trinity for the 2022-23 school year should be entered/updated no later than Sunday, July 31. The Magnus system sends email reminders at least weekly until your child(ren)'s health records have been completed. If you receive a reminder for a requirement that you think you’ve completed, or if you believe your family will require an extension on submitting your annual paperwork, please contact School Nurse Debbie Bright at nurse@trinityatl.org at your earliest convenience.

    • Magnus Health is accessed through MyTrinity.
    • Please be sure to enter or update the health information, including up-to-date immunization certification, required within your Magnus account for each child attending Trinity for the 2022-23 school year.
    • Please note that Magnus Health allows you to save your work as you enter it and that you will be able to complete most of your child’s health record without your pediatrician’s input.
    • Please carefully review the emergency contact information in your child’s Vital Health Record and delete duplicate names and numbers. Each child’s record should have three local emergency contacts, including parents, with a different phone number listed for each contact.
    • Until you click on Submit for Approval, your child’s record is not complete.
    • Please note that changes made to your profile in MyTrinity do NOT carry over to your child’s health record in Magnus Health. When we are dealing with your child’s health, Magnus is our source for your contact information, so it is vital that this information is correct.
    • If you have trouble accessing Magnus Health through MyTrinity, please contact Karen Johnson at kjohnson@trinityatl.org.
For questions about Magnus, please feel free to contact Nurse Debbie at nurse@trinityatl.org. You may also contact Magnus Support directly by phone at 1-877-461-6831, by email at service@magnushealthportal.com, or on their website at www.magnushealth.com.

The School continues to add parent headshots to profiles in MyTrinity, the School's password-protected portal that is accessible by Trinity parents, faculty, and staff only.

Returning parents, please note that you can now add your headshot to your MyTrinity profile to assist with this process. If you do not already have a profile photo on your MyTrinity profile, visit your profile and click “Edit Photo.” Please upload a photo that is at least 200 x 200 pixels with the face centered horizontally and vertically. The photo should be a clear photo of the profile owner’s face and not include additional people.

New families, please note that you do not need to upload a headshot as you will have your MyTrinity profile photo taken in the Learning Commons when you have your badge photo taken. Please see badge photo information below.
  • + Badge Photos

If you need to have your badge photo taken or if you have grandparents or caregivers who need photos taken, Systems Administrator Anthony Taylor will be available in the Learning Commons between 9 AM and noon every Tuesday and Thursday from now through Thursday, August 4. The receptionist will notify Anthony that you are here and direct you where to go. There will also be an opportunity to have your badge photo taken during Visitation Day. Please email Anthony at ataylor@trinityatl.org if you have any questions about your badge photos.

If you lose your badge, please contact Reginald Haley, Director of Operations, at rhaley@trinityatl.org. Replacement badges are available for a fee of $10. Badges will be available for pick up on Visitation Day.

Upper Elementary Division Head Ira Dawson and our Specials Teachers will be there to greet them and take them to the UED Music Room for New Upper Elementary Student Orientation. Mr. Dawson and his team will take new UED students to their base classrooms at approximately 9:40 AM so that they have time to meet their teachers and explore their classrooms prior to the start of Visitation Day. Once new UED students have been dropped off in carpool, their parents are invited to join the admissions team for coffee in the Overend Learning Commons.
More information about these orientations will be sent to parents the second week of August.

  • + First-Day Items Needed for Early Elementary Division Students

Please be sure to send the following items with your EED child on the first day of school.

    • Each Early Elementary Division student should wear the name tag mailed to them prior to the first day of school.
    • A pair of rain boots that are well marked with your child’s name (Early Learners and Pre-K).
    • Extra complete change of clothes in a plastic bag – both clothing and bag should be well marked (Early Learners and Pre-K).
    • The Trinity School blue tote bag (Early Learners and Pre-K).
    • A non-rolling, 15-inch bookbag or backpack (Kindergarten and First Grade).
  • + Bookbag Considerations

    • Each student in Early Learners and Pre-K classes should bring his or her blue and white Trinity bookbag clearly marked with his or her name on the outside. All new Early Learners and Pre-K students have received a Trinity bookbag as a part of their welcome to the School.
    • Older students (Kindergarten–Sixth) who are more responsible for their personal belongings may want to use a backpack or another type of bookbag that is comfortable for them.
    • Kindergarten teachers request that Kindergartners use bookbags that are 15” or larger because of the size of the students’ binders.
    • It is strongly recommended that Kindergarten through Fourth-Grade students use a backpack and not a rolling bookbag because of space concerns in the classrooms.
  • + Loop Road Access and Safety

In order to ensure the safest traffic patterns possible, and in agreement with North Atlanta High School (NAHS), Trinity School community members utilize the north half of the loop road (enter/exit at the Trinity School entrance sign) and NAHS community members use the south half of the loop road. Please note the following safety procedures.

    • During carpool hours and special events, our community is required to enter Trinity’s campus from Northside Parkway at the Trinity School sign. Carpool hours are as follows: 7–8:30 AM, 12:30 PM–4:30 PM.
    • A Trinity employee is stationed at the Trinity gate during carpool to manage traffic.
    • When exiting the School, at any time of day, you should turn right out of Trinity’s gates. It is important not to cross traffic.
    • For their safety and the safety of others, pedestrians are strongly discouraged from using the loop road.
We appreciate the entire Trinity community working together to follow the traffic rules to ensure the safety of our students, parents, faculty, and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Reginald Haley, Director of Operations, at rhaley@trinityatl.org.
  • + General Carpool Rules and Safety Measures

    • Drivers need to remain in cars and not park and walk up to or through the carpool area, including the dismissal table.
    • Cell phone use is prohibited in the carpool lane. In accordance with Georgia’s Hands-Free Driving Law, effective July 1, 2018, refrain from using a cell phone, earphones, or other electronic device that can distract one’s attention from people and vehicles. Teachers and staff have been instructed to ask drivers to put cell phones away when dropping off or picking up children in the carpool lane.
    • A traffic control officer will be on duty in the carpool line each day during morning drop-off and afternoon pickup to ensure safety for our parents and students. It is essential that all drivers follow the traffic control officer’s instructions at all times.
    • Car trunks and hatchbacks may not be opened in the carpool line.
  • + Morning Arrival and Drop-Off

    • Drivers need to remain in cars and not park and walk up to or through the carpool area, including the dismissal table.
    • Parents are not permitted to walk children into their classrooms.
    • During the first two weeks of school, a classroom teacher from each of the Early Learner and Pre-K classes will be at carpool to assist apprehensive little ones at their cars and walk them to their new classrooms.
    • Drop-off begins at 7:30 AM for both Early Elementary Division and Upper Elementary Division students. Trinity’s school day begins promptly at 8:05 AM for all students.
    • All students must be dropped off via the carpool lane EXCEPT for Fifth and Sixth Graders and cars carrying four or more Trinity students, who may use the Visitor Lot for morning carpool.
    • All students should enter the School through the AWAC or the external corridor next to the AWAC.
    • Faculty and staff will be on hand to open car doors. Do not let Early Elementary Division students out of the car until a teacher or staff member opens the car door.
    • Please make sure children’s seatbelts remain fastened until the car has come to a complete stop in the carpool line. Parents or students must unfasten seat belts and car seat buckles.
    • Faculty will be dismissed a few minutes prior to the start of school to be in class to start the day. Once faculty members are gone, parents must park and walk their children to reception and sign them in.
  • + Early Morning Drop-Off

Trinity offers early morning drop-off from 7:15 to 7:30 AM Monday through Friday throughout the school year. Students can be dropped off in the carpool line where a faculty member will be present. Registration is not required.
  • + Dismissal Times

    • Early Learners: 12:30 PM Monday–Friday
    • Pre-K and Kindergarten: 2 PM Monday–Friday
    • First Grade through Sixth Grade: 3 PM Monday–Thursday, and 2 PM on Friday
  • + SchoolPass | Make Carpool Updates by 8:30 AM

    • Trinity utilizes SchoolPass, an automated carpool system, to notify teachers of your arrival for pickup.
    • Parents are responsible for making adjustments to carpool dismissal through the SchoolPass app. More information about SchoolPass, including how to download the app, can be found on the SchoolPass tile in MyTrinity.
    • Parents must notify the School by updating information in SchoolPass if their child will be picked up early or is not going home in his or her normal carpool at the regular dismissal time.
    • Parents should communicate all carpool changes, including early pickup, through SchoolPass by 8:30 AM on the day of the change. This will ensure that teachers and the appropriate staff receive notification of the change. In addition to updating information in SchoolPass, please be sure to notify your carpool driver of any change in routine.
If you have any questions about how to update SchoolPass, please contact Director of Extended Programs Kayleen Whitmer at kwhitmer@trinityatl.org.
  • + Early Carpool Pickup Protocol

To keep afternoon carpools safe and efficient, please note the following guidelines if you are picking your child up early and it is close to a 12:30, 2, 3, or 4 PM carpool.

    • Please make sure you update SchoolPass by 8:30 AM to reflect an early pickup (see policy above).
    • If you are picking up a child early, you must pick them up at least 30 minutes before the start of any carpool.
    • If you arrive to pick up a child less than 30 minutes before a carpool begins, you must use the main carpool lane.
    • Please note that during afternoon pickup, the Visitor Lot is used for carpool overflow and multi-family carpools approved by the Director of Operations.
Director of Operations Reginald Haley will continue to monitor this process. If you have an emergency or have questions or concerns about carpool, please contact Reginald at rhaley@trinityatl.org.
  • + Afternoon Dismissal and Pickup

    • Drivers need to remain in cars and not park and walk up to or through the carpool area, including the dismissal table.
    • Please be on time to pick up your child. Teachers often have obligations immediately following dismissal. Faculty and staff are not available to supervise late pickups. Students who are not picked up by the end of carpool will be sent to Extended Programs where applicable drop-in fees will be charged.
    • Remain in your car in the carpool line until students are placed in the car by the teachers on duty.
    • When picking up during afternoon carpool, please do not exit your car to assist with car seats or seat belts. Instead, pull into the Visitor Lot or park along the side of the main driveway to buckle belts.
    • Car trunks and hatchbacks may not be opened in the carpool line.
  • + Food During School

    Morning Snack
    • All classes have a daily snack time. We ask that you send a nutritious snack in easily opened containers. A few options are fresh vegetables, fruits, cheese sticks, and whole-wheat crackers. Low nutritional items such as chips and cookies are discouraged; candy is prohibited. Students should bring a reusable water bottle with their name labeled. No other drinks are permitted unless part of a Trinity School Nurse-approved dietary plan.
    • Early Elementary Division students should bring their snack in a container with the student’s name clearly visible on the outside.
    • Trinity School’s Food, Sugar, and Allergy Policy is available on the Health Information tile in MyTrinity and in the Parent Handbook (which is always linked in the Parent Resources tile in MyTrinity) and includes the responsibilities of parents, students, and the School. All parents should review this policy both in terms of your child’s allergies as well as for procedures pertaining to other students’ allergies. Teachers will inform parents of serious food allergies in each classroom.
    Lunch
    • Please note that outside food is not permitted in either of Trinity's Dining Halls.

  • + A Note from TSPA President Elana Street

    Winnie Smith
    Dear Trinity Community,

I hope summer is treating you well and you are enjoying some less scheduled days with loved ones. On behalf of Trinity’s administration, faculty, staff, and parent volunteers, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning families as we look to the 2022-23 school year. We are energized to be returning to a more typical school year and look forward to continued connection through our cherished Trinity-specific traditions and events. We are grateful to be navigating this path together as a community and dedicated to ensuring the remarkable experience for which Trinity is known.

I am honored to serve as President of the Trinity School Parents’ Association (TSPA) this year. In this role, I look forward to working with TSPA’s parent leaders, including the TSPA Council, Grade Level Representatives (GLRs), TSPA Committee Chairs, and Room Parents. These volunteers serve in numerous roles, most notably as a resource and communication channel for all parents. GLRs and Room Parents are available to you throughout the school year, and I encourage you to get to know them as they are both diplomatic and an excellent source of information. GLRs are a conduit between you, TSPA, the administration, and the Board of Trustees. Room Parents are a link between you, your child’s class, and teachers. We all encourage your questions and feedback as they will only help us to get to know your family better and evolve together.

In fact, one of Trinity’s greatest assets is our community of capable, enthusiastic, and talented volunteers. Whether you are a new or returning parent, there is a perfect volunteer opportunity waiting for you. We hope you will consider signing up for a Trinity volunteer role that speaks to you in this digital newsletter and look out for the email with classroom specific volunteer roles that will be sent during the first few weeks of school from your Room Parent. These roles not only benefit our school but also allow you an opportunity to connect with fellow parents in our warm and welcoming community.

I can hardly wait to see you on campus. Please be sure to say hello!

    With Gratitude,
    Elana

    Elana Street
    2022–2023 TSPA President

Grand Day

List of 1 items.

  • + Grand Day | October 21

Grand Day is a very special tradition at Trinity. It is one that our children look forward to each year, a day when grandparents or special friends are invited into the classrooms to spend time with students. This year’s event will take place on Friday, October 21. The event typically begins with a Welcome Reception for all guests, followed by classroom visits. We will communicate full information about this wonderful tradition closer to the event.

Linked below is a Grandparent Information Form for your completion. Grand Day invitations will be sent to grandparents and special friends based on the information you provide on this form. A special friend may be invited to Grand Day only if no Grandparents are able to attend. If you wish to have a special friend invited to Grand Day, please feel free to indicate the name of the individual that you would like to invite. In order for Grands to receive all information on time, please complete the linked form below by Friday, August 26. If you have any questions, please contact 2022-23 Grand Day Chair Annie Everett at everettannie@gmail.com or Director of Spotlight on Art and Special Events Leisy Stevenson at lstevenson@trinityatl.org.

Completion of this form will also enable the School to involve grandparents in the Trinity Community. Grandparents will be added to Trinity’s mailing list to receive our major publications and invitations to participate in the full spectrum of school life. As email is our primary form of communication, please consider including current email addresses for your parents. If your parents do not wish to receive any correspondence from the School, please contact Leisy Stevenson.

We look forward to making Grand Day a memorable occasion for your child and their Grands!

Please click here to fill out the Grandparent Information Form by Friday, August 26.
