    Trinity School Sixth Graders
    shine in Statewide Honor Chorus

Over the weekend of February 9 and 10, 2024, Trinity School's musical talents were on full display as four members of Trinity's Sixth Grade Leadership Class – Clara, Elinor, John, and Sofia – took the stage at the annual Sixth Grade Statewide Honor Chorus program, held this year in Tifton, Georgia. Organized by the Georgia Music Educators Association, this event highlights the dedication of music educators in nurturing young talent across the state.

Each Sixth-Grade music teacher in Georgia can choose up to four students to participate in this event. After undergoing one-on-one auditions with Upper Elementary Music Teacher Caitlin Grubbe, Clara, Elinor, John, and Sofia committed to bi-weekly sessions over a six-week period to prepare the music for the event, which included songs in both Latin and Spanish. Our Sixth Graders then joined forces with 396 peers for intensive rehearsals over two days, culminating in a concert. Moreover, Sofia was chosen to participate in a small group solo, following a special audition evaluated by several music teachers. Our students’ selection serves as a testament to their natural musical aptitude, maturity, and hard work demonstrated in class. These opportunities not only enhance their musical skills but also contribute to their overall growth as well-rounded individuals.

Leading the concert were two esteemed conductors: Dr. Emily Williams Burch, who currently teaches classes in performing arts and sound design at The Savannah College of Art and Design, and Dawn-Marie Schafer, Associate Director of the Austin (Texas) Children’s Choir and the Region 18 Texas Music Educators Association’s Middle School Vocal Chair.

    Bella Giorno certified as
    Orton-Gillingham Associate

In November 2023, First Grade Senior Associate Teacher Bella Giorno was inducted as an Associate member of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. At Trinity since 2020, Bella completed her associate-level training after undergoing 10 observations and conducting 100 hours of small group and one-on-one instruction under the mentorship of Orton-Gillingham Fellow Josie Calamari.

She says, “As the First Grade Associate, my most important role involves pulling students who show initial signs of needing additional phonics and reading support from all four First-Grade classrooms. I previously completed the Classroom Educator training, but because I only work with small groups of two to three students, I knew my lessons needed to be more individualized and targeted. Therefore, I decided to pursue the Associate Practicum where an Orton-Gillingham fellow would guide me through my small group and one-on-one instruction to best help me determine and address the needs of my students. I am grateful to work in a community where continued growth and professional development are encouraged.”

Bella has a Master of Science in Education in Literacy from the University of Pennsylvania and a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and Psychology from the University of Miami.

    Enchanted courtroom drama unfolds
    in Sixth Grade musical production

On May 11, 2023, the Sixth Grade Leadership Class put on two performances of their annual musical production with Second through Fifth Grade students participating as members of the chorus. During this year’s show, The Big Bad Musical, a courtroom has never been more lively and fun! The notorious Big Bad Wolf was slapped with a class-action lawsuit by storybook characters who wanted to get even: Little Red Riding Hood, her Grandmother, the Three Little Pigs, and the Shepherd in charge of the Boy Who Cried Wolf. While newscasters reported live from the courthouse, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest - the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother - clashed in a trial that will be remembered forever after. As our wronged fairy tale characters testified, the wolf seemed deserving of all that he had coming to him, yet he ended up making a good case for himself. What was the verdict, innocent or guilty? The jury (the audience) decided innocent for one show and guilty for the other during the biggest trials ever in the fairy-tale world!

    Kyle and Brent Pease's Inspirational
    Story Motivates Trinity Fifth Graders

On April 28, 2023, Trinity Fifth Graders were inspired by Kyle and Brent Pease’s story as they prepare for the Fifth-Grade Olympics. The Pease brothers have completed over 75 races together, including four IRONMAN triathlons, and founded The Kyle Pease Foundation to “improve the lives of people with disabilities through sports" and "create opportunities of inclusion for every person with a disability.” The brothers’ interminable bond and message of meeting challenges resonated with our Fifth Graders, encouraging them to work together and strive for their finish as they pursue their own goals and dreams. • AWAC: New Look and Equipment If you have visited the Allison Williams Activity Center (AWAC) recently, you have seen some of the impressive updates Trinity School made over the summer. One of the most prominent changes was replacing the bleachers with cushioned, retractable seating from Hussey Seatway, UK, specialists in the design and manufacture of telescopic seating for education, sport, and theatre spaces. Now with space for more than 600, the seating features lit aisles, carpeted decks, and upholstered cushions with laminated wood fascia accents. The gym floor was refinished with fresh graphics and the border carpet was replaced. The walls received new paint and new drapes were added on the stage and sidewalls. In addition, the entire existing audio, video, and lighting were replaced with a cutting-edge A/V and lighting system that includes top-of-the-line subwoofers, and the theatrical and vestibule lights were replaced.
