Math

Manipulatives, whether familiar objects gathered from a child’s world or unifix cubes, are used to illustrate concepts. Children recognize relationships and interconnections in mathematics and are able to deal flexibly with mathematical ideas and concepts. These basic understandings lead to discovery and to sound mathematical reasoning.

The Everyday Mathematics program, a spiraling curriculum, is the basis for Trinity’s Kindergarten - 3rd grade math programs. In grades 4– 6, the discovery-based mathematics program teaches the basic concepts necessary to think and communicate mathematically. 4th graders use the Harcourt series. The 5th and 6th graders use the Holt series, which is the extension of Harcourt.

Instruction concentrates on building a strong foundation in computation as well as providing the higher order thinking skills necessary for complex problem-solving. Each grade level encounters a number of mathematical concepts including number sense, algebra, patterns and functions, geometry, statistics, and probability.
