Environmental Education

Mission

The mission of Trinity School’s Environmental Education program is to expand and deepen children’s understanding and appreciation of the natural environment, and to provide them with the skills to have a positive impact on the future of our planet. Also, to model good environmental practice for students, Trinity undertakes projects that develop appropriate sustainable practices as an institution.

History

Beginning in fall 2007, Cissie White became the new Director of Environmental Education. Currently chairing the Sustainability Task Force, she, along with students, teachers, staff, parents, and Trustees interested in the environment, will focus on the following:

  • Evaluating and reducing Trinity’s impact on the environment;
  • Students’ involvement, which begins with parents and teachers leading by example;
  • Determining our current environmental footprint (audits regarding energy use, lights, paint, chemicals, pesticides, etc.);
  • Making environmental education a curricular focus;
  • Incorporating more healthy and locally-grow foods into our food service;
  • School-wide recycling;
  • Composting;
  • On-site gardens for growing some of our own food.
